Stage 03 / 09 · Material track

Dyeing and fabric finishing

Greige fabric is scoured and bleached, then dyed — reactive dyes are common for cotton — before washing off, softening, drying and compacting to control shrinkage. Lab dips and shade approval come first; tests confirm shrinkage, colour fastness and GSM.

What happens at this stage

Pre-treatment (scouring and bleaching) prepares greige fabric to take colour evenly. Cotton is commonly dyed with reactive dyes in jet or soft-flow machines, then washed off to remove unfixed dye.

Finishing — softening, drying and compacting — sets handfeel and controls shrinkage. Lab dips are approved before bulk dyeing, and the fabric is tested for shrinkage, colour fastness and weight.
